There
are three different ways to navigate the various images :
The
first way is to browse the list of descriptions located below
on this page and jump directly to any that sound like they may
interest you. You can then click the "back" button on your browser
or hit the "IMAGES" button on the top menu to get back to this
page and find the next one you would like to view.
The
second way you can find what you are looking for is to visit the
graphical index of thumbnails for the images, and find the ones
that look interesting and click directly on those thumbnails to
go to the images. You will need to click the "THUMBNAILS" button
on your browser to get back to the graphical index. (WARNING -
The graphical index contains 15 thumbnails, if you are on a slow
server it may take a while for you to get the entire page downloaded.)
The
third method involves clicking on the right or left arrow located
at the bottom of each page (located under this paragraph on this
particular page) to be taken full circle through each successive
image and page. You may start in either direction, each arrow
will lead to the image directly before or behind the one you are
currently viewing, eventually bringing you back to this page.
-
The
Archway - This distant shot of a beautifully crafted
and decorated arched room shows a sea-going design.
-
The
Wine Bar - I believe (if I remember correctly) that these
large stone tables were at the center bar of this saloon of
sorts.
-
The
Bird Bath - This bath may have been used for washing
hands or even taking a sip of water - or it may have just been
a bird bath.
-
Torso
Of a Statue - A close-up profile of one of the many Roman
statues still standing in the halls of Pompeii.
-
A
Grassy Park - A small bench sits off to the site of this
little overgrown park - a brief respite from the cobble stone
and stucco.
-
Fern
Tree and a Pot - A snapshot of what this little bit of
this sidewalk may have looked like in the days before the eruption
which covered the city in ash.
-
A
Cornbread Oven - One of many left standing in the little
bakery we stopped in and visited. Our guide explained how the
meal was ground and baked into bread.
-
Passageway
- A short and simple hallway.
-
The
Inscription - At the base of one of the many statues
standing in the city. If anyone can read it and translate it
into English I would be happy to post exactly what it means.
-
A
Large Structure - A wide shot of a large building on
the outskirts of town.
-
Another
Structure - In the other direction.
-
The
Statue - A complete statue standing in the courtyard
of this building. Notice the large stone column standing behind
it.
-
Street
Scene - A shot down on of the main cobble stone streets
in the ancient city of Pompeii - shops and homes line both sides.
-
Mosaic
Tile Design - Up close the incredible design appears
to be a group of 3-dimensional boxes - but in reality is a flat
floor.
-
The
Large Wall and Tree - This wall circles the front, or
opening of the city as we approached it from our tour buses.
The tree on top is actually on a hill behind the wall.
